Program Position: Trip Leader and Equipment Room Manager | Adventure Outings

How did you first get connected with Adventure Outings (AO)?
When I was a freshman I initially struggled making friends, so I went on an AO trip to meet like minded people. While on the trip a trip leader encouraged me to apply, and the rest is history! I admired the leaders and how passionate, personable and fun they were.

How would you describe your role with AO?
I have done just about everything there is to do within AO. I am a trip leader, so I work on planning and facilitating trips. I worked in the office, assisting with paper work and trip sales. I was the marketing and personal relations manager promoting AO all over campus, and most recently I started working as the equipment room manager repairing gear and renting it.

What does working for AO do for you personally, professionally, or academically?
Adventure Outings has helped me grow and develop in leaps and bounds as a leader. Working in managing positions has given me invaluable experience for my future professional career. Joining AO has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. Most of my best friends work for AO and it gives me a great, healthy, positive, outlet for my time and energy. If I didn’t have AO I don’t know what I would be doing!

What do YOU bring to the table in your role at Adventure Outings?
I hope I can bring my passion for the outdoors and share it with participants and teach others how to explore their passions. I hope to share some of my enthusiasm for this with newer members of AO as I start to get closer to the end of my AO career.

What are your career plans and how does your job with the Associated Students better prepare you for that path?
Right now my dream would be to attend dental school. Working with the AS, especially AO, has taught me that nothing comes without hard work, but at the same time nothing worth wanting is attained without hard work. I have become a great leader, teacher and learner, and I hope that those skills set me apart from my peers. Working has taught me that it is possible to do it all. I have a great job that I love, a full class schedule and a vibrant social life as well as high aspirations for my future!
