Major: Journalism with option in Public Relations
Hometown: Woodland, CA
Program Position: Event Coordinator | AS Productions
How did you first get connected with AS Productions (ASP)?
I found the job posting on the AS Chico website. I was exploring the site trying to find ways to get involved, and I found my home here with just a click of a button. I had just transferred to Chico State when I got hired, so it was a great first way to meet people and get involved with the campus.
How would you describe your role as the Event Coordinator with ASP?
I work with a team of students to plan, promote and implement fun events for Chico State students. We plan events anywhere between movie nights on the lawn to fun game nights where you can win cool prizes such as iPads, GoPros and even Disneyland tickets. I help with our operations, so I manage the calendar, organize tabling and support our Event Staff.
What does working at ASP do for you personally, professionally, or academically?
I have learned a lot about events working with AS Productions, including how to keep details organized, communicate with the right people, departments, programs, and thinking strategically and creatively. Working for ASP has helped me gain skills I’ll need for my career, as well as build relationships with people all over the campus. It’s been an amazing experience.
What do YOU hope to bring to the table in your role as the Event Coordinator?
I bring more new ideas and am a constant promotional machine for our events and the up-keep of our program/brand. When I first started with ASP, we had just gone through our fifth name change in four years, and we desperately needed to stick with one singular image so the students knew who we were. Now, we’ve had our name for two full years and it’s been so amazing to be part of that process and grow with the program.
What are your career plans and how does your job with the Associated Students better prepare you for that path?
I want to go into publicity and events in the future, so this job has definitely helped me get my feet wet and into the right door. The skills I have learned in programming and communication have helped me to find other opportunities to grow professionally, and I will use them all as a foundation for my career when I graduate.
