Major: Animal Science
Hometown: Chico, CA
Program Position: Student Supervisor | AS Catering
How did you first get connected with the Associated Students (AS)?
My parents both informed me about Associated Students before I started going to Chico State, but when I attended the campus tour I really appreciated what the organization does and was founded on. I have had prior catering experience and once I found out that Associated Students had a catering area, I knew that AS Catering was the best fit for me. I am very lucky to be a part of the AS Catering team and to work with such amazing people.
How would you describe your current role with AS Catering?
I am currently a student supervisor with AS Catering. This position entails leadership, teamwork and a drive to represent Associated Students to the best of my ability. I prepare food, help set events up, and strive to provide the customer with a great experience at their event. I am also available if any of my coworkers need help or have questions about an event.
What does working for AS Catering do for you personally, professionally, or academically?
AS Catering has taught me about leadership and improved my teamwork skills. This last semester I was able to be a part of the interviewing process, and that gave me the chance to see the employer’s perspective and prepared me for my future interviews after college. We work hard and most days manage to have fun doing it.
What do YOU bring to the table in your position with AS Catering?
I believe I bring helpfulness, reliability and friendliness to my position with AS Catering. I love to see smiles on customers’ faces and hearing that we did a fantastic job. That really motivates me.
What are your career plans and how does your job with the Associated Students better prepare you for that path?
I plan to graduate with a BS in Animal Science and a minor in Food Studies. I haven’t quite decided what I want to do with my degree in Animal Science. Working for the AS has taught me about leadership, working in a changing environment and the importance of anticipating the next step. I believe that working for AS Catering has also shown me at the consumer level how important agriculture is.
