Hometown: Hamilton City
Brittany came to Chico State as a shy, timid, somewhat withdrawn student. She needed a campus job and found just the position she was looking for at AS Conference Services. This job allowed her to learn various campus programs and to meet a wide range of university staff. She then transferred her skills to AS Human Resources where she met staff from all AS corporate areas. “I wouldn’t have known about all AS programs and met so many people had it not been for my front desk work experience. I learned what questions to ask and who to ask.”
All these connections opened a host of other doors for Brittany. She served on the AS Multicultural Affairs Council, became a peer advisor for Summer O orientation, an EOP academic advisor for 40 freshmen, and even ran for office of AS Executive Vice President. She also volunteered with Upward Bound and CAVE’s Alternate Spring Break program where she traveled to Mississippi to help build homes with Habitat for Humanity.
Brittany’s career goal is to work in Student Affairs in higher education and her jobs at the AS have provided great resources for her personal and professional growth.
In Brittany’s words:
“The networking opportunities in the AS are amazing but they go beyond that — to the University and to the community. I lucked out getting the job with Conference Services. I was so timid then, but after a year I broke out of my shell and just blossomed. The AS is like a big friendly, receptive, supportive family. And now in my senior year I’m back working for Conference Services! I encourage students to find their niche and passion and go for it. Do everything sooner — DON’T WAIT!”
