“I actually came to Chico State because of CLIC.” That certainly speaks highly of the reputation of Community Legal Information Center. Zach had an older high school friend who was involved at CLIC, and when Zach came to campus and heard a class talk in one of his Political Science classes, he headed straight to a CLIC intern training meeting. He started at CLIC as an intern in the Outreach Program which promotes CLIC and its free legal services to the campus and community. His focus was to raise awareness of all the program has to offer in addition to organizing fund raising events. From there Zach became an intern in one of CLIC’s 12 specialty programs — Family Law. “That’s where I got my first taste of law and loved it. Now I want to go to law school and become a criminal defense attorney.”

To further that career path Zach moved on to his current position as Co-Director of the County Jail Law Project. In this capacity Zach hires, trains and supervises 11 student interns to effectively research and respond to prison inmate letters. This connection opened another door for Zach to secure a part time paid job as a Butte County Jail Legal Research Assistant where he works with inmates to provide them legal information about their criminal cases.

“I’ve been around CLIC long enough to know the whole organization and can contribute to making it run more smoothly. I bring enthusiasm, leadership, and a wealth of knowledge to the job. More importantly, Zach finds the most rewarding aspect of his efforts to be “helping clients quickly with quality work.”

In Zach’s words:
“All that I do at CLIC provides me with real life experience to support my decision to go into Law. I’m taught, I learn, and I apply knowledge to real life situations and see the impact it makes. CLIC is an amazing place — definitely the highlight of my college career. I’ve spend a lot of time with these people. We’re closely knit and I’ve made best friends. We have similar goals, we’re driven, and we have high expectations. All of that makes a great atmosphere to work in.”
