How would you describe your role as a Senator for the College of Humanities and Fine Arts?
My foremost interest is to make sure that all student voices are heard, and to let my college know that there is a representative established just for that reason. I would describe my role as a liaison between the students and the administration of the University. It is my duty to make sure that there is transparency with all of the decisions that involve the students at Chico State.

What do YOU bring to the table in your role as a Senator for the College of  Humanities and Fine Arts?
My love for the City of Chico and CSU, Chico precedes any work I do as Senator for the college of Humanities and Fine Arts. As a master’s student and English instructor, I work closely with the English department as well as the HFA college. I feel my position as a student and instructor in HFA allows me to have a personal and professional investment in my job as a Senator. I make it a priority to be involved with the music and theater programs here on campus. I attend art, history, language or philosophy lectures and events. My strong sense of community building from both a teaching standpoint and a student perspective allow me to bring my five years of experience at Chico State to this particular AS government position.

What current projects are you working on to better your College?
I am working on establishing a monthly meeting for all of the HFA clubs and organizations. This will help bring together student leaders throughout my college to announce or propose any projects or special club collaborations, and to address any issues that they feel need to be heard. Having a collective meeting will enable me and future HFA Senators to have a set event to meet and relay any information to and from the student body.

What legacy would you like to leave for the next set of elected Senators?
Since this group of Senators are an inaugural class, I feel as if we have already set a legacy in motion by just becoming an existent body and lasting for a full academic year! I turn to my chosen quote as a set legacy for the next elected senators. Know that we had the courage to stand up and lead our individual college, to face our personal obstacles and the hardships of the college, whatever they may be, in order to gain a better environment – a better university.

How do you see this position developing next year?
I foresee the HFA senator position becoming a more permanent and established role in the AS Government Affairs office. The work that I have done for this past academic year has helped foster roots that will continue to grow with time and care.
