How did you first get connected with the AS Financial Services Office (FSO)?
I had always known about the Financial Services Office because of my prior AS job, but I did not know much more about it than that was where you pick up your check. Then one day one of my roommates told me that there was an opening for an accounts payable assistant position there. I applied that day and received an email inviting me in for an interview the very next week.

How would you describe your current role with the FSO?
Currently, I am an accounts payable/open hold assistant for the Wildcat Store. I regularly collect invoices and input them into the accounting system so the store can pay the vendors weekly. In addition, I make sure all the store’s vendors’ accounts are up-to-date. Most students may not think of all the work that goes into stocking the Wildcat Store, but I see the inner workings because all the invoices pass through my desk. I definitely appreciate how smoothly the store runs after becoming an employee.

What does working for the FSO do for you personally, professionally, or academically?
Personally, I feel that working at the Financial Services Office is a nice break during the day from my normal school activities. When I’m there, I don’t worry about my school work or social life, and I can just focus on my work and enjoy spending time with my co-workers. Professionally, I can tell that I am not as nervous talking to people I am not familiar with, and I have much better communication skills whether it is in person, over the phone, or through an email.

What do YOU bring to the table in your position with the FSO?
I think that I bring the right amount of seriousness and humor to a space that could potentially bore most people. I love working with my co-workers and have made great friendships that I’m sure will last past my time here in Chico.

What are your career plans and how does your job with the Associated Students better prepare you for that path?
In the future I hope to become a CPA and work for a regional firm. Not only does my job with AS aid with my accounting interests, but as a business major in general, I have had hands-on experience that will no doubt correlate directly to my future job plans. I am constantly interacting with others, and communication is one of the major tools in any profession. I have also learned to work with many different people at once, which is very important as well.
