Major: Business Administration with an Option in Marketing
Hometown: San Diego, CA
Program Position: Marketing Coordinator | AS Sustainability
How did you first get connected with AS Sustainability?
When I transferred to CSU, Chico, I was looking for an opportunity to get involved in a sustainable organization because I am receiving a minor in Managing for Sustainability and have always been intrigued in the topic. I applied for both an internship with the Green Events Consulting Team and a Marketing Coordinator position. Though I had little experience in either sustainability or marketing, I knew I had a passion for both and as a result was hired as the Marketing Coordinator.
How would you describe your current role as the Marketing Coordinator for AS Sustainability?
My current role as the Marketing Coordinator has become a huge part of my life; it is no longer just a job. This coming semester I will supervise a team of seven interns, all of whom will help market different projects both in and out of AS Sustainability. Both social media and on the ground marketing is used to reach the campus audience. Essentially, I love to spread the word about what great sustainable stuff is going on at CSU, Chico and share our accomplishments!
What does working for AS Sustainability do for you personally, professionally, or academically?
Working for AS Sustainability has affected my life on many levels. Personally, I found a group of people that have become more like family. Everyone cares about something bigger than themselves, sustainability, and it is refreshing to find others who share the same passion. Professionally and academically, the skills I have learned in relation to marketing have already proven to be beneficial. I have been able to use what I have learned in the office both in the classroom and in internships.
What do YOU bring to the table in your position as the Marketing Coordinator for AS Sustainability?
I consider myself a passionate individual. When something is a part of my life, it has a special place in my heart. My personal and professional life at AS Sustainability is no different. The work I’ve done and the family I have in BMU 301 has and always will define me. I would also like to think that my tenacity brings energy to the office.
What are your career plans and how does your job with the Associated Students better prepare you for that path?
My job at AS Sustainability has helped me realize my love for both marketing and sustainability. I would love to work for a sustainability minded company as a Marketing Coordinator. I have always been intrigued in the sustainability side of energy, specifically. Ultimately, I want to find a job where I have the ability to make the Earth a better place by utilizing my strengths and skills.
