Program Position: Outreach Director | CAVE

How did you first get connected with Community Action Volunteers in Education (CAVE)?
I happened to be walking by one of their tables and decided to stop and see what it was all about. I was impressed with how enthusiastic the staff was about volunteering, and instantly knew I wanted to be a part of it. The first time I came into the CAVE office I realized I had found my second home.

How would you describe your current role as the Director of Outreach?
I am now responsible for the advertisement of CAVE. I make sure that our presence is known to the students by working with an outreach team to ensure that students know all the benefits that come from getting involved with our community. We do this through posters, shirts, social media, presentations, events, etc. As a part of the Director team I am one of the leaders in CAVE who provides an example for the rest of staff. Our goal is to develop student leaders among all of our staff.

What does working at CAVE do for you personally, professionally, or academically?
CAVE has given me a sense of purpose and direction in life, and as cliché as it sounds, it has changed my life for the better. The skills and experience I have gained through my years with CAVE are invaluable. There is something really special about this organization that can bring out the best in people. I have never been happier in my life. When you can dedicate yourself to something bigger than yourself it can be one of the most rewarding experiences.

What do YOU bring to the table in your position as a Director in CAVE?
Passion! It has always been my strongest quality. When I believe in a cause, when I can be inspired, nothing can stop me from seeing it through to the end. CAVE manages to inspire students from all walks of life. I want to continue that tradition by bringing my own passion to this cause.

What are your career plans and how does your job with the Associated Students better prepare you for that path?
I would love nothing more than to join the marketing team of a non-profit and continue the journey that began with CAVE. My time here has given me the proper experience and motivation to go down this path. I will also be pursuing a career in the film and entertainment industry where I feel I can truly create a message and make changes for the better.
