Push yourself to new environments!
What does Kyle do?
For Kyle Guthrie, Adventure Outings is home. In his position, he assists fellow trip leaders as well as helps to facilitate various program adventures. He got involved in the program early on in his college career. With his passion for the outdoors, he was eventually encouraged to apply for his current position. His favorite experience with Adventure Outings so far has been going inflatable kayaking in the Trinity River, which he feels pushed him into a new genre of the outdoors by exposing him to a new environment. He recommends connecting with Adventure Outings to learn more about the outdoors, technical skills, and how to prepare for trips properly – as well as getting the opportunity to be exposed to fellow, like-minded outdoorsy students!
What are your career plans and how does your role with the Associated Students better prepare you for that path?
My career plans include involvement in outdoor medicine as a paramedic, nurse or first responder. The Associated Students provide Chico State students with programs such as Adventure Outings to learn more about outdoor safety and skills. Adventure Outings has provided me with medical training and technical outdoor certifications that will prepare me for situations that I may encounter in an outdoor setting. Now, thanks to those opportunities, I am better equipped for my dream career path.
