419 SWIPES COLLECTED TO-DATE
As the owner and operator of all dining and retail space on Chico State’s campus, we have the opportunity to serve our students in a unique way. In an effort to meet our students where they are in life, we partnered with the Center for Healthy Communities and the Hungry Wildcat Food Pantry to create the Swipe Against Hunger program, a program designed to specifically tackle the growing problem of low food security on campus.
During an event hosted each semester at Sutter Dining Hall, students who have purchased a meal plan through AS Dining Services and University Housing are able to donate an unused “swipe” to a fellow Wildcat in need. These swipes are administered to students who visit the Wildcat Food Pantry due to food insecurity or scarcity.
“Our campus is run by Associated Students. We don’t have Chick-Fil-A’s or Taco Bell’s and because of this, that money that is being paid from the students for the meal plans [can come] back to our campus.”– Jessica Ramirez, 2020 Graduate and Founder of the Swipe Against Hunger program at Chico State
