Dancing Dreams and Deities Art Exhibition starts
Come visit Dancing Dreams and Deities in the BMU Third Floor Gallery from March 12-April 9! These works are examples of a tradition of artifact illustration which goes back at least as far as the rediscovery of the ancient civilizations of the Western Hemisphere by outsiders in the early 19th century. The artifacts which served as models for these particular illustrations date from 600 BCE up to the 15th century CE and range from a three-dimensional greenstone sculpture from Veracruz, Mexico, to a flat gold hairpin from the Urubamba Valley of Peru. “The purpose of this exhibition is to not only show my personal visual interpretation of ancient objects, but also to demonstrate my own methodology, by which I illustrate objects of study in order to better understand and ruminate on them. The selections for this show are taken from a set of recently published illustrations, my thesis work, and final projects for Art History courses here at Chico State.”
