Some history on the Maggie & Marsha Awards:
The Maggie Awards (originating in 1994) were named after Maggie Pattison, who was the Associated Students’ Government office manager for 23 years. In 2011 when the Women’s Center was expanded to be the GSEC, the award ceremony was renamed to the Maggie & Milk awards to commemorate Harvey Milk, the city supervisor of San Francisco and the first openly gay officer in the city’s history. In 2017 the GSEC has renamed the event to the Maggie & Marsha Awards and has altered several awards to reflect new names that honor the legacy of more erased/rarely recognized activists in LGBTQ+ and Women’s history.
