WWO: Yosemite Backpack
August 2, 2019 - August 7, 2019
Wildcat Wilderness Orientation (WWO) is a fantastic way for incoming students at CSU, Chico to become acquainted with college life through the outdoors. Adventure Outingsʼexperienced outdoor instructors, who are Chico State students themselves, will guide students on adventure-filled trips throughout Northern California, where they will dive into activities such as backpacking, kayaking and rock climbing.
Yosemite is often touted as being the crowning jewel of California’s National Parks. Nestled in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, it covers 1,169 square miles of land and has 800 miles of hiking trails including the John Muir Trail and the Pacific Coast Trail. Nearly 95% of the park is designated wilderness and is home to hundreds of wildlife species and thousands of plants. Animals often seen in the park are mule deer, coyotes, grey foxes, bobcats, and black bears, as well as yellow bellied marmots and pikas in the higher elevations. Squirrels run rampant throughout the forests, and spotted owls, white headed woodpeckers, chickadees, and even bats rustle through the tree tops. While on the Yosemite National Park Backpacking WWO trip, participants will get the opportunity to experience the beauty and wonder of this great wilderness on foot, travelling as the great explorers did many years ago, along paths and across rivers that have stood the test of time.
This trip will begin with a night of camping in Yosemite Valley and then transition into five days of backpacking. Experience with backpacking is not required but it would be helpful. The route is very challenging and a moderate to high level of physical fitness is required for participants. If you are unsure of whether or not this a good fit for you feel free to contact us to further discuss your compatibility with this trip.
*Includes transportation during the trip, technical gear, park usage fees, meals, experienced leadership, and WWO merchandise.
