Alturas, CA | History

Hey Wildcats! I’m Taryn Burns and I am so excited to serve as your senator for the College of Humanities and Fine Arts (HFA)! I’m studying History and English to become a high school teacher. On-campus, I have participated in the Legislative Affairs Committee (LAC) to encourage voter registration and education as well as participation in the census. I joined with the Office of Civic Engagement to further this work. I also participate in North State Roots, an organization which supports students from the rural north state in their pursuit of education. I work at WellCat Substance Abuse Prevention and Education where I see first-hand some issues affecting our students.

I am from the super small town of Alturas, CA (my graduating class had 45 students). I grew up working with my hands, either with cattle or the land. In school I studied hard to prepare myself for college. I will take the same approach to my position here and go all-in in support of the students. I will focus on supporting our student organizations. I also want to emphasize fiscal responsibility for our college, associated students, and the university as a whole. You pay the tuition, so I want to make sure we are spending your money responsibly.

I encourage all our students to step forward and participate at Chico State in whatever way works for you. If you are interested in joining us in AS, please do! There are many committees that need your voice. I also ask students to reach out to me with any concern, or if you just want to talk. Please feel free to stop by BMU 220 or email me at tmburns@csuchico.edu
