March 8, 2019: On behalf of KCSC Radio and the Associated Students organization, we apologize for a recent insensitive post promoting the upcoming KCSC vinyl sale. Those involved are now aware that this image was deeply hurtful to African American students, faculty and staff, and regret that the image was posted. The image was immediately removed from our social media accounts, as it does not represent the values of KCSC Radio or the Associated Students.
We will address the issue with the person responsible for this image, as well as examine our own processes for post approval. In light of the past week’s campus conversations, as well as recent national discussions regarding the always-inappropriate use of blackface, we know it is necessary to reinforce a standard of thoughtfulness, sensitivity, and inclusion among our social media team.
We are committed to these ideals for our students.

KCSC premiered on March 14, 1951 as part of the Speech and Drama Department in what is now Ayers Hall as a radio drama on the campus public address system.
In the early 60s Chico State’s campus became another world after a handful of radio enthusiasts adopted KCSC and created the beginning of rock and roll radio in Chico. As the 70s hard-rock “thing” waned, KCSC listeners found a new friend in the Livewire — DJs who would always play their requests. Always a few steps ahead of the trend, KCSC was named “Best College Radio Station” in a 1987 SPIN survey.
