Joining CAVE’s career staff in January of 2004, Carla was excited to bring her passion for community service and experiential learning to her professional life. First serving as the Office Manager and moving quickly to the Kids Educational and Service Learning Program Manager, Carla was able to put her years of experience in the K-12 schools to practice.
Carla was responsible for bringing Special Pals and EL Connections, once one-on-one programs in the community, into the classroom to support the educational success of all children. She initiated moving the Tutorial Program from the classrooms into the CAVE office. With the support of a CAVE student director, Carla designed and implemented the Be the Change Program at the Esplanade House. Carla currently oversees all 11 of CAVE’s Kids and Community Connections Programs along with the Service Learning Program.
Born and raised in Durham, Carla has been actively involved in her community’s schools. She and her husband, Bill, have been married for 34 years and have three grown children: two daughters and a son, two fantastic son-in-laws and two amazing grandchildren.
