Adopted Grandparent Program

CAVE Volunteers

Program Description
Volunteers participate in personal visits with a “grandparent” matched by both of their personal interests. This program allows college students to relate to someone from another generation while giving the “grandparent” comfort and stability and allows the volunteer to make a difference in their lives.

When the Program Meets
Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Specifies times are coordinated with the grandparent and volunteer’s schedules.

Various residential care facilities in Chico. Facilities range from 2 to 7 miles from campus.

Why Volunteer?
This program gives volunteers a sense of family, empathy, and the potential to nurture a new friendship.

Volunteer Quotes
“My favorite part was hearing the story of how my grandparents met and seeing their wedding photo.”

“I was able to broaden my mind by hearing stories of people I wouldn’t normally get the change to talk to. Feeling supportive and comforting to someone who didn’t ask for help but enjoyed the company was very rewarding.”
