FREE Belay Classes
Interested in learning how to belay or simply refine your skills?
A belay certification is required before belaying in the climbing gym. Classes are designed to teach the basic skills and techniques required to belay in a top rope setting. You will also gain skills in spotting and basic safety on and off the wall. All equipment will be provided.
Upon completion of the class, or if you have prior knowledge of belaying, a test must be taken in order to receive your certification. You may take the belay certification test any time the gym is open!
Fall 2017 Belay classes:
Monday and Tuesday – 6pm-8pm
Belay classes are free, and spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please arrive at 6pm.
Want to climb, but don’t have a climbing partner? The WREC Climbing Gym offers staff belays between 3:00pm – 10:00pm Monday through Friday, and all day on Sundays.
The WREC Climbing Gym also has a large area dedicated to bouldering, which does not require the use of equipment or belaying.
Basic climbing equipment is available, FREE of charge at the WREC Climbing Gym. Available equipment includes: shoes, harnesses, chalk, and for those who are belay certified, ATC belay devices and carabiners are also available.
Socks are required to use our climbing shoes.
