Equipment Rentals

Equipment available for rent:

• Camping and Backpacking Rental Equipment
• Winter Sports, Mountaineering, and Climbing Rental Equipment
• Paddlesport Equipment
• Watercraft (kayaks, canoes, paddleboards)

Our friendly and knowledgeable staff will answer any questions you may have!

Students receive a discounted rental rate, and AO trip participants will receive 50% off their total rental purchase. Equipment rental is available to the public. We accept credit/debit card only. NO CASH.

AO Equipment Rental Policies

• Payment in full is required via credit/debit card at the time of rental.

• The renter is responsible for inspecting equipment when picking it up.

If you see any damage or missing parts, immediately bring it to our attention so we can help you. You are responsible for any cleaning, damage or missing parts upon return.

• The renter is soley responsible for the full cost of repair/replacement if rented gear is damaged, lost, or stolen.

• Renters are allowed to rent a maximum of 1 item per category, per person per order (i.e. 1 backpack, 1 tent, 1 canoe package, 1 SUP package, etc).

  • Exception: a maximum of 2 items per category, per person per order are permitted for sleeping bags, sleeping pads, bear cans, coolers, & dry bags.

• If equipment is returned after the due date, late fees will accrue at 50% of the weekend rate per day.

Any items late by 1 week or more will result in the suspension from the WREC.

Any items late by 3 or more weeks will be considered stolen and reported to Chico State Judicial Affairs and/or Chico State Police.

• A $35/hour cleaning fee will be assessed for equipment not returned clean.

If your rental equipment is wet or dirty, call on or before the scheduled return date for instructions and a possible fee waiver.

• Tents:

  • All tents must be set up by the renter upon return.

Tents will not be considered returned unless you set it up and it is inspected by an employee.

• Any tent rentals returned without a complete set of stakes will be charged the missing stake fee.

Missing Stake Fee = $10 flat rate

• Watercraft & Boating Equipment:

  • Renters must have either:

1) completed a boating safety course through Adventure Outings -or-

2) possess the knowledge of applicable boating rules and laws and practical handling of the specific craft being rented

• All boats are rented as a package with paddles, PFDs, and helmets.

• Renter must have suitable transportation and/or vehicle racks.

• Attendants are unable to provide straps or tie-downs or to assist in securing/tying down boats on vehicles.
