Group Exercise at the WREC

We offer 16 different types of Group Exercise classes at the WREC, with over 60 classes each week. There is sure to be a perfect class for your schedule. We offer strength classes like ABS, Butts & Guts, and Interval along with cardio-based classes like Dance Fit and Spin. Try a Yoga class if you need to stretch it out or find your “Zen”. New this year is Barre Fitness, ballet-inspired moves with elements of Pilates, dance, and strength training. Our instructors lead the classes in a way that makes the workout appropriate for all fitness levels. There is no need to sign up for a class. Just show up to experience some fitness fun!

Class Descriptions

Barre Fitness - This class combines ballet-inspired moves with elements of Pilates, dance, and strength training. You will use a ballet barre, and small equipment such as Bender balls, Glide disks, and light weights to strengthen and tone the muscles while maintaining flexibility and mobility of the joints.

Barre-lates: This class takes the best of Barre Fitness and fuses it into a traditional Pilates workout. You will get a total body workout while still having a strong focus on the body’s core muscles.

Butts & Guts - This class focuses just on your lower body! Sculpt, shape, and strengthen your abdominal, glutes, and thigh muscle groups in this lower body targeted workout.

Circuit - This high-intensity circuit class is filled with a variety of exercises that target all the muscle groups of your body. While moving through different circuits, you will participate in both cardio and muscle-building activities

Dance Fit - This class is so fun, you won’t even realize that you are working out. Dance Fit combines Latin, current hits, and other international music with dance moves from all over the world. Previous dance experience is not required. Just be ready to move, shake, and have a blast!

High Fitness - High Fitness is a high-intensity workout that is easy to follow and a total blast. With simple choreography, this class is comprised of non-stop cardio and sculpting interval training moves set to fun, familiar music! Options are given for all fitness levels.

International Dance Fit: Just like your traditional Dance Fit class but with an International flair. You will get to experience dance moves and music from all over the world while getting in a fun workout.

Interval Training - This action-packed class combines cardio and strength training intervals to help you increase speed, strength, and endurance. Be ready to sweat and burn some calories while having fun!

Kickboxing - Learn the skills of kickboxing in this class. You will jump rope and shadowbox your way to a great workout. This class will also teach students proper form and partner pad work.

Pilates - This system of physical conditioning involves low-impact exercises and stretches to increase flexibility, strength, balance, and body awareness. All fitness levels are welcome.

Rhythmic Spin - This upbeat and motivating spin class relies heavily on the beat of the music to determine the tempo and intensity of the ride. Be ready for great music and a high-energy workout!

Spin - Take your cardio workout to the next level with one of our great Spin classes. We even have 30-minute classes to keep you energized between classes or on your lunch break. You control the intensity of the workout which makes this class great for all fitness levels.

SUP Pilates - Take your traditional Mat Pilates exercises onto our Stand-up Paddleboards for an extra fun core challenge. Pilates exercises are designed to improve core muscular endurance, flexibility, and posture. Adding the Paddleboard to this workout adds more core work for a fun-in-the-sun workout! (Class will start after spring break!)

Swim Fit - Join us for a group swim workout. An instructor will lead new workouts each day and provide feedback on swimming strokes. Each workout can be modified for your ability. Participants should be able to swim 4 lengths of the pool without stopping.

Total Body Pump: This Personal Trainer-led class uses a variety of equipment to give you a total body strength training workout. This is a great class for those wanting to learn how to use small fitness equipment.

Wake-up Workout: Start your day off right with a total body early morning workout. This class is led by WREC-certified Personal Trainers. On Mondays, the class meets in the Personal Training gym and on Wednesdays and Fridays, the class meets in GX 240. All fitness levels are welcome.

 

Yoga Classes (At the WREC and The Well)

Yoga: Use this mind and body practice to decrease your stress levels. Yoga combines physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation or relaxation to promote mental and physical well-being. All levels are welcome.

Gentle Yoga - This popular yoga style is perfect for the beginner or for anyone looking for a more gentle practice. This practice will incorporate in both seated, standing and lying poses while focusing on breath and bringing peace to the mind and body.

Flow + Restore Yoga - This yoga class gives you the best of both Yoga worlds! You will start with a Vinyasa-style flow that will get your muscles warm and your heart pumping. The second half of class consists of Restorative Yoga where you will rejuvenate your mind and body through easy, relaxing poses.

Meditative Yoga Flow (new!): The goal of this class is to stay focused on the present moment and breathwork while slowly flowing through traditional yoga poses. All fitness levels welcome!

Power Yoga - Be prepared to take your Yoga practice to the next level! This yoga flow workout will challenge your body’s strength, flexibility and balance by moving you through your Yoga practice at a faster, more challenging pace. This workout will be geared towards the intermediate/ advanced Yoga student.

Restorative Yoga: The main focus of restorative yoga is that by relaxing in poses, with the aid of props, without strain or pain, we can achieve physical, mental, and emotional relaxation. Restorative yoga classes are very relaxing and slow-paced.

SUP Yoga - What is better than Yoga in the sun? Add in the fun of a Stand-up Paddleboard in our amazing pool and you have the perfect warm-weather workout. In this class, we will focus on basic yoga poses and breathing to facilitate a good stretch that will be sure to lower your stress levels. (Class will start after spring break!)

Vinyasa Flow - If you are looking to break a sweat in your yoga practice, this is the class for you! You will flow continuously through strong sequences of traditional Sun Salutations and standing postures while linking your breath with movement and building strength and endurance.

Yin and Restore (new!): This fusion Yoga class starts with the traditional Yin Yoga poses and ends with relaxing Restorative Yoga poses. Yin Yoga involves holding poses for longer periods of time to help lengthen the deeper connective tissues, joints and fascia.

If you experience faintness, dizziness, pain or shortness of breath at any time while exercising you should stop immediately. Those following the workout routines do so at their own risk.
