The Associated Students is thrilled to announce the beginning of a series of exciting changes to our union dining center in the Bell Memorial Union, the Marketplace Café, beginning Monday, July 22, 2024.

The Marketplace Café, which opened with the Bell Memorial Union in 1969, is beginning its transformation this coming fall semester with the introduction of three new dining concepts. Responding to the evolving tastes of our vibrant campus community, we are thrilled to welcome two locally owned and family-run restaurants into our culinary lineup. Aimed at enhancing the dining experience for students, faculty, and staff, these upgrades reflect our commitment to providing exciting, diverse, healthy, and sustainable food options in a welcoming and casual environment.

Monkey Bowls, hailing from Durham, CA, will offer a light, refreshing addition to our campus dining experience with their specialty vegan, gluten-free acai bowls. Featuring nutritionally dense and antioxidant-rich superfoods and locally sourced toppings, Monkey Bowls is eager to nourish our campus community with their vibrant and health-conscious offerings.

Mi Taquito Grill, originally known for their popular food truck on and off campus, will now expand their presence to a brick-and-mortar concept in the Marketplace Café. Based in Paradise, CA, Mi Taquito Grill is celebrated for their authentic Mexican cuisine and has garnered a loyal following among students and staff alike. This move indoors will not only enhance their accessibility but also their capacity to serve our campus community.

Chico State Smokehouse Deli, a collaborative effort between AS Dining Services and the University Farm, will proudly feature traditional smokehouse-style hot and cold sandwiches made from meats processed at the Chico State Meats Lab. This partnership serves as a platform for showcasing the University Farm’s dedication and craftsmanship in agriculture. It not only supports their growth in this field but also strengthens our relationships with the campus community, particularly those passionate about food and sustainability.

"We're excited to roll out these fantastic new dining options Fall 2024!" shared Assistant Director of Retail Dining for the Associated Students, Scott Harrison. "Marketplace Café is set to be even more inviting and delicious location to dine on campus. These changes help bring our communities together with great food while supporting local businesses and our University Partners."

The Marketplace Café will be CLOSED July 22nd through August 15, 2024. Regular semester hours will begin the week of August 19 at select dining locations.
