Strawless at Chico State – In April 2018, AS Dining eliminated single-use plastic straws from all dining locations on the Chico State campus, becoming the first California State University to successfully transition entirely away from plastic straws. Stainless steel Post-Plastic Straw Kits are available to purchase at Dining Services locations and paper straws are available at all of our locations upon request.
Eliminating Single-Use Plastics – AS Dining Services is committed to substituting single-use plastics with plant based solutions. Cups, lids, plates, and utensils are all made from plant-based renewable resources.
Reducing Food Waste – AS Dining Services currently composts all food waste in our kitchens. During the last academic year 310,000 lbs of food waste were diverted from the landfill with the collaboration of AS Recycling. In an effort to further reduce and track food waste, AS Dining will be implementing LeanPath food waste tracking software into our operations. This software allows for detailed reporting and tracking of food waste, which in turn allows from identifying opportunities and areas to reduce.
