The new Chico State Smokehouse Deli officially opened last week on the first day of the fall semester, August 26. The deli, which features produce and protein options directly from the Chico State University Farm and bread from local Chico bakery, Tin Roof, brings some new delicious flavors to the Marketplace.
And we're not the only ones who think so! During their first week, the Marketplace Cafe saw a 37% increase in sales from last year, selling just under 2000 meals. Fan favorites are already starting to show, with most popular dishes including the Deluxe Mac n’ Cheese, Smoked Brisket Sandwich, and Smoke House Turkey Sandwich.
In addition to the new Smokehouse Deli, two local small businesses have also opened up shop in the Marketplace; Mi Taquito Grill (@mitaquito_grill) and Monkey Bowls (@monkeybowls_chicostate).
"With the new semester starting and so many great changes around the campus, The Marketplace has definitely done an exceptional job in standing out by revamping the way students and staff dine on campus by adding some new amazing options," shared Business Information Systems major and Vice President of Business & Finance for the Associated Students, Rishika Tyagi. "Being a vegetarian myself, I was delighted to know that they now have so many options for me, it's like there is something for everyone!"
