We are excited to announce the addition of an Ablution Area at The Well. Creating a Prayer and Reflection Space to support student success was a top priority, and this space has been well-received and frequently used. However, the lack of plumbing within The Well created a challenge for those needing to perform ablution rituals (wudu).

To address this, we have added an Ablution Area in the gender-inclusive restroom just outside The Well's main entrance. This dedicated space for ablution practices will remain locked when not in use. Slippers are provided in the Prayer and Reflection space to make walking to the Ablution Area more convenient. Please check in with The Well’s reception staff for access to the space. Research revealed that only five of the 23 CSU campuses have ablution areas. At The Well, we are deeply committed to ensuring that our campus promotes inclusive and equitable practices.

What is an ablution area? An ablution area is a dedicated space equipped with facilities for performing ablution (wudu) before prayers. It is designed to provide a clean and comfortable environment forindividuals to perform ablution rituals, enhance their spiritual experience, and promote a sense of community.

Our wudu station is equipped with:

  • Basin with running water
  • Soap holder
  • Paper towels
  • Slip-resistant flooring for safety

The Well's Prayer and Reflection space is one of the many unique spaces. We provide prayer mats and prayer beads. Visitors are welcome to leave prayer rugs in the cabinet within the space. In addition, we update prayer times every morning.

The Associated Students of Chico State is unwavering in its commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment that respects our community members' diverse religious and cultural practices. Introducing an ablution area is a tangible reflection of this dedication, demonstrating our willingness to accommodate the needs of our Muslim community and all members of our diverse campus.
