My journey into the art world began quite spontaneously when I visited the Third Floor Gallery in April. On a whim, I asked myself, “What if I applied to an art show before I graduate?” As a lover of art museums, I frequently explore gallery exhibits for inspiration, and the thought of showcasing my own work felt exhilarating. With my undergraduate degree set to conclude in May 2025, I decided to embrace this opportunity and go for it.

The experience of having my own art show has truly been a dream come true. As an avid photographer for most of my life, the exposure my work has received has been a blessing. The marketing efforts surrounding the show—complete with posters, billboards, and promotions—have been beautifully executed, offering a fantastic learning experience as I aspire to enter the marketing field after graduation. The excitement of being featured in interviews from outlets like The Latest and The Orion, alongside the support from friends, family, and community members, has been deeply rewarding. Their meaningful feedback has made expressing myself publicly all the more gratifying.

The theme of my gallery, “What If?”, was inspired by the very question that prompted my application. I had an abundance of photos ready to display, but I wanted to delve deeper. Combining my love for writing and performing speeches, I incorporated written pieces alongside my photographs. Each of my works is titled after positive “what-if” questions, aimed at challenging the negative inquiries we often face—questions like “What if I fail that test?” were
countered with more optimistic alternatives, each paired with serene images that resonated with the themes

The layout of the gallery was somewhat intuitive, with a special emphasis on dedications to those who have shaped my journey. These dedications were kept as surprises for my friends and family, adding an element of excitement to the reception. Among my pieces, “What if your wishes came true?” holds a special place in my heart, evoking cherished memories of tide pooling with my family in Fort Bragg. Another favorite, “What if you are enough?” reflects my own journey of self-acceptance, as I questioned whether my photography was worthy of this opportunity.

I wholeheartedly encourage anyone with even a slight interest in hosting an art show to apply. This experience has been incredibly fulfilling, and I’m grateful for the support from the AS team, particularly Kim Canisso, Gabrielle Doshier, Alex Sorger, and AS Catering, who made this dream a reality. They guided me throughout the entire process, culminating in a beautifully catered reception.

Though my planning timeline was brief—from late April to the show’s conclusion on September 20th—the photographs I displayed spanned from 2022 to this year, reflecting my experiences as an undergraduate. Ultimately, my biggest inspiration comes from my family, friends, colleagues, and teachers, who push me toward greatness. I find beauty in the ordinary and cherish moments of gratitude, even on the dullest days. In a world that can often feel stressful and daunting, I believe there is always something lovely to admire.
