What encouraged you or pushed you to have an exhibit at the Third Floor Gallery?
I came across a poster in the hallway of the Ayers Hall, I instantly thought to myself this would be a perfect opportunity to show my art before graduating. I had an idea in mind so I figure I would apply. I wanted to share my studio practice and the art pieces I made while living in the Bay as an artist.

What is the theme of this gallery/ why was the name you chose decided on?
The theme was loosely based on my creative practice in my old art studio. I wanted to show pieces I experimented with and how artist can get off the canvas and paint on found objects. I went through many names until I landed on “Maker’s Codex” To me this title really tied in with the theme I wanted express in the show. A codex is described as a book or working log, I felt as though this represented my own enthusiasm about getting in the studio every day, experimenting with paint and connect with the creative community around me.
What materials did you use for your work (supplies, cameras, equipment, etc)?
Most of the materials I used for this show were sourced from various places around the Bay Area and Chico. Maker’s codex was a mix of old and new works, for instance the paintings on old screen-printing silk screens and vintage glass bottles are somewhat newer; while my works on sheet metal that are framed in wood are from 2019. There are two 12X14 pieces that are particularly special to me. One because I saved them from an old art shop that was demolished for condos and two, this was the point in my practices where I started implementing more face- profiles and minimalism.

How long did this collection of work take to put together?
The work for this particular exhibit took me a few months to assemble. Mainly because I had to gather older pieces from the Oakland, finish my newer paintings and build my ‘Mock Studio’installation piece. I also came up with a zine to pair with the show, so that also took a while. For the zine I had to go through sketch books, old flash drives, search through Google Docs and my computer to find the right photos to use.
What inspires you as an artist and how does it relate to this exhibit?
As a mixed media artist, I really like experimenting with found objects and using unusual mediums to make art with. Inspired by my love for street art and mural making. My goal was to reflect all of this in the show. As well show students to think outside the box. Though stressful at times, I always like to express to people ‘if it's not fun why are you doing it’ be creative with kind of mentality.
