Torres Shelter

Program Description
Volunteers serving at the Torres Shelter have the opportunity to maintain resources and providing a safe and clean environment for the individuals served as well as assisting in leading groups and guest activities. Volunteers can support the shelter in one of three ways:

  • Direct Care Provider Assistant: Assist our direct care providers with assisting at the services desk, assisting with medication retrieval, cleaning, laundry, prepping for new guests, and assisting with intake processes. Assisting with guest enrichment opportunities by running games, activities and groups. Assisting with chore set-ups, and guest bins. Ensuring completion of the sign-in sheet for current guests.
  • Kitchen Assistant: Assist with daily duties such as dishes, labelling shelves, assisting with ensuring proper cleaning is completed. Assisting Head Chef and Kitchen Manager with meal prep, cooking, and service. Assist with organizing shelves, pantry and supplies. Completing inventory and stock rotation. Learning about the Nutritional needs of individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Facilities Assistant: Assisting our facilities manager with landscaping and beautifying the shelter grounds and outside of the building. Assisting with gardening, planting and watering vegetables and herbs. Assisting in maintaining the pet area and coming soon will include assisting with the kennels, dog park prep, and sanitation.

Location of Program:
101 Silver Dollar Way (2.8 miles from campus- car necessary)

Days/Times:
Days and times for shifts are flexible including evening and weekends: 1-hour shifts required

Program Requirements:
Background check conducted by the Torres Shelter and on-site training. Volunteers must be 18 years or older to volunteer at the Torres Shelter.
