CAVE volunteers at Torres Shelter

Program Description
Volunteers serving at the Torres Shelter have the opportunity to support our local, service-enhanced shelter that serves individuals 18 and older experiencing homelessness. Volunteers play a critical role in supporting the Torres Shelter staff by helping maintain resources and providing a safe and clean environment for the individuals served at the shelter. Volunteers can support the shelter in variety of ways including:

  • Direct Care: Assist our direct care providers at the services desk, greeting guests and helping them access daily living services such as mail services, shower supplies, transportation information, laundry and more! Volunteers assigned to this area will have high interaction levels with guests.
  • Meal Provider: Assist with daily duties such as dishes, labeling shelves, assisting with proper cleaning of the kitchen space. Assist the Head Chef and Kitchen Manager with meal prep, cooking, and meal service. Volunteers assigned to this area will have moderate-high interaction levels with guests.
  • Activity/Services Volunteer: Assist the residents with enrichment and recreational activities. Volunteers in this area will plan and facilitate activities such as teaching art classes, lead recreational activities, and more. Volunteers in this area will have high interaction levels with guests.

101 Silver Dollar Way (2.8 miles from campus- car recommended)

Days/Times:
Days and times for shifts are flexible including evenings and weekends between the hours of 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. Shifts will be in 1-hour shifts increments, and standard schedules will be established during on-site training.

Program Requirements:
Background check conducted by the Torres Shelter and on-site training
